Our Story
A family kitchen in Market Harborough
Han is small, independent, and run by the people who cook in it. No group behind us, no central kitchen, no recipes written by somebody who has never stood at the pass on a Saturday night.
We opened on St Mary's Road with a short menu, two woks and a plan to cook the food we grew up eating. Years later the menu is longer, the room is busier, and very little else has changed.
Market Harborough was not an obvious place to open a Cantonese restaurant. It turned out to be exactly the right one. This is a town that eats out properly — birthdays, anniversaries, Friday nights, quiet Tuesday lunches — and that gave us the room to cook honestly rather than cheaply.
Our regulars have watched their children grow up in the corner booth. Some of them order the same thing every time and we would not dream of suggesting otherwise. Others come in and ask what is good tonight, which is the question the kitchen most likes to answer.
We are not trying to be the newest restaurant in Leicestershire. We are trying to be the one you can rely on — the food consistent, the welcome the same whether it is your first visit or your hundredth.

In The Kitchen
Three things we will not compromise on
01
Nothing arrives ready made
Stocks simmer overnight. Dumplings are folded each morning. Sauces are built in the wok as the dish is cooked, not ladled from a tub. It is slower and it costs more, and it is the whole point.
02
One wok at a time
Each dish gets a burner to itself and ninety seconds of undivided attention. That is why food reaches you as it is ready rather than all together — hold it back and the flavour goes with it.
03
Cooked the way we eat it
The Cantonese classics are here because they are genuinely good, not because they are safe. Alongside them sit the regional dishes we cook for ourselves after service. Order either. Order both.

Front Of House
Everyone gets the same welcome
Children are genuinely welcome — there are high chairs, small portions and nobody minds noise. Large family tables are our favourite bookings. Solo diners get a proper table rather than a seat by the door.
If you have never eaten Chinese food beyond sweet and sour, say so and we will guide you. If you know exactly what you want and it is not on the menu, ask — quite often the kitchen can make it.
